Job Description
Temporary Volunteer Position
February through March 2010
Approx. 30-40 hours total
4-8 hrs/week as needed, work remotely
The event volunteer coordinator is responsible for scheduling over 100 volunteers for our new Early Edible Plant Sale and helping coordinate them during the event, with regular support from Seattle Tilth staff.
Seattle Tilth is very fortunate to attract outstanding volunteers that provide essential support for our educational events and programs throughout the year. We will recruit volunteers and the event volunteer coordinator will communicate with them to find the right position and time slot. We will have systems set up to facilitate this process and will train you to use them before you begin.
Responsibilities
- Schedule volunteers for the Early Spring Edible Plant Sale
- Reply to volunteer inquiries and find appropriate shifts
- Regularly check phone messages and emails and reply in a timely manner (within 24- 48 hours)
- Keep excellent records of all communications and scheduling
- Stay in regular communication with your staff contact
- Work at the volunteer booth during the event on March 20 (ideal but not required)
- Represent Seattle Tilth in a professional manner at all times
Qualifications and Requirements
- Excellent communication skills through email, phone and in person - clear, friendly and professional
- Excellent organizational skills
- Consistency – able to return phone calls and emails promptly (within 24- 48 hours)
- Volunteer coordination experience preferred
- Self motivated – able to work remotely and stay in touch with Tilth staff regularly
- Comfortable using Excel and Word
Volunteer schedule benchmark goals:
Have schedule 50% filled by Feb 22
Have schedule 75% filled by March 1
Have schedule 100% filled by March 10
