Volunteering in Southeast Seattle

Volunteers and interns are essential to the success of Seattle Tilth! 

Build professional and personal skills, meet people and contribute to the community in our Southeast Seattle programs while volunteering or becoming an intern at Seattle Tilth. Interested?

DROP-IN OPPORTUNITES

Can't make the next Volunteer Orientation, but want to get started working with us right away?  Try attending a drop-in work party below!

  • Rainier Beach Urban Farm and Wetlands Work Parties
    Help plant, harvest, and maintain the Rainier Beach Urban Farm, and upgrade the site for the next step towards more food production.
    Every Saturday, 10 a.m.–3 p.m.

  • Community Kitchens NW Dinner Volunteers
    Volunteers needed to help with cooking, serving and clean up. Meal included!
    Third Friday of every month - Upcoming dates: Fridays Feb. 17, Mar. 16, Apr. 20
    Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Ave S, Seattle, WA
    3 p.m., Cooking begins
    5:30–6:30 p.m. Dinner
    3–7 p.m. Volunteer shift

Volunteer Opportunities - School & Farm

  • Children’s Garden Volunteer
    Learn about garden education while helping to support classes for elementary school students and teens at the RBLG.  Help with lesson preparation, teaching support, and leading small group activities.  Shifts are available during the school day or in after-school programs on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. 
  • School Composting Volunteer
    Help South Shore become a zero-waste school by volunteering to support our school recycling and composting program.  Help with lunchroom waste sorting, developing educational activities, and teaching kids about waste reduction.

    Opportunities range from one time only to ten week kitchen lead positions at cooking clubs or for Community Dinner events.

Internships

  • Children's Garden Teaching Intern
    Support our children's garden education program, improve your teaching and gardening skills. Help with lesson preparation, teaching support, and leading small group activities.
  • Rainier Community Center (RCC) Garden Steward Intern
    Learn organic gardening techniques while helping to build and maintain the learning garden at RCC.  Help support large garden projects, host work parties, and keep the garden looking beautiful.
  • Rainier Beach Learning Garden (RBLG) Steward Intern
    Learn organic gardening techniques while helping to build and maintain the learning garden at RBLG.  Help support large garden projects, host work parties, and keep the garden looking beautiful.
  • Rainier Beach Urban Farm & Wetlands Farm Steward Intern
    Learn organic gardening techniques while helping to build and maintain the Rainier Beach Farm.  Help support large garden projects, host work parties, and keep the garden looking beautiful.
  • Cooking Club Intern
    Learn how to support a kitchen lead to coordinate a ten week cooking based nutrition education club at a partner agency in the community. Current cooking clubs are at Aki Kurose Middle School, Rainier Community Center, Cleveland High School, Tiny Tots Development Center, and Yesler Community Center. 4-8 hrs/week, 12 weeks.
