The Master Food Preserver Certification course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to teach others safe methods for food preservation. The training includes food preservation history, a food borne illness overview and current USDA guidelines for canning fruits, vegetables, meats and seafood, freezing and dehydrating methods, pickling and fermenting foods as well as teaching strategies. The format for this class is one part lecture, one part kitchen practicum and one part teach-back completed by participants to develop teaching techniques and skills. Upon completion of the course attendees will be certified by Seattle Tilth to teach food preservation for 3 years.
