The Seattle Tilth Master Food Preserver Certification Course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to teach others safe methods for food preservation. Learn everything you need to be a safe canner and food preserver, and become certified to instruct others! This training includes food preservation history, a food borne illness overview and current USDA guidelines for canning fruits, vegetables, meats and seafood, freezing and dehydrating methods, pickling and fermenting foods as well as teaching strategies.
The course is offered as 5 consecutive Saturday classes in a format that includes lecture, demonstration and discussion with a significant hands-on component. The course will culminate in a symposium where participants will be required to develop and present a group lesson to receive their certificate. Upon completion of the course attendees will be certified by Seattle Tilth to teach food preservation for 3 years.
