Learn the basics of healthy fruit tree pruning, hands-on! We will cover how, when, and where to thin branches, remove deadwood, and deal with water shoots. We will also discuss how pruning can increase fruit production and sculpt your trees for health, beauty and long life.

Whether you’re starting a young tree or fixing old pruning errors, this class will help you guide your fruit trees into graceful, healthy, fruit laden works of art. This class will include a significant hands-on component; feel free to bring pruning tools. We may be outside for this entire workshop -- please dress for the

Instructor Laila Suidan is a certified arborist and landscaper who’s been working with plants professionally for 15 years.  Her background is in environmental restoration and food gardening as well as a general horticulture, in which she has a couple of degrees.  She runs a small business called Down to Earth Landscapes, with which she cares for plants and ecosystems, coaches home gardeners, and designs new and renewed landscapes.  Fruit tree care is one of her favorite specialties.  She previously worked for two years as an educator on the Garden Hotline, and has volunteered with Seattle Tilth since the late 90s. She’s also taught horticulture for both community college and high school.
