Monday Mornings at the Children’s Garden

monday morning classes for ages 2-5

Classes for Parents & Preschoolers ages 2-5 yrs

Spring & Fall Schedule

Learn to garden with your preschooler. Explore the family organic garden in these one-day sessions. Learn what to plant and how to work together to grow your own garden. These classes introduce children and parents to insects, flowers and the garden world. We will sing songs, find colors & shapes, and taste the flowers and plants that grow in the garden. All classes take place in our Children’s Garden at the Good Shepherd Center.

Mondays, 10–11:30 a.m.
Classes are intended for both parent and child.
$20 for Tilth members / $25 for non-members

Class Registration

We are curently using paper resgistration for all Children's Garden classes.

  • Mail or fax: Download and print a registration form and mail it in with your payment. For faster service fax your registration form to (206) 633-0450. Confirmations will be e-mailed.

Spring 2010

Wiggle, Squiggle, Giggle

April 12

Explore the compost bin. Discover the worms and other compost critters that live there. Learn how to set up and maintain your own worm bin.

 

Starting with Seeds

April 19

Gardens start from seeds. Explore all kinds of seeds. Make your own seed pot from common household materials. Take seeds home to grow.

 

Dig It!

April 26

This is real gardening. Get ready to dig! Practice the important garden tasks of planting seeds, digging out weeds, watering plants and helping the garden.

 

Slimy Creatures

May 10

Enter a world of slime. Meet snails, worms, slugs, and other slippery critters. Learn about their habits and habitats and how their role in the garden ecology.

 

Get Dirty

May 17

Learn more gardening techniques. Transplant flower and veggie starts, use large tools and run the wheelbarrow obstacle course!

 

Bug Tales

May 24

Good Insects are everywhere! Learn why they are important and how to attract them to your garden. Build a bug house and care for the creatures.

 

Flower Power

June 7

Taste the different plants and flowers in the garden. Learn about plant parts and collect a garden rainbow!

 

Fall 2010

Bug School

Sept 20

Explore the smallest creatures in the garden. Identify beneficial bugs and spiders. Learn about their habits and anatomies. Build your own insect to take home.

 

Fabulous Flowers

Sept 27

Collect flowers and their seeds from the garden to take home. Make an outrageous flower bouquet!

 

Tools are Cool

Oct 4

Explore and use an enormous variety of tools. Practice important safety skills when using different hand tools. Dig a giant hole!

 

Harvest Hoopla

Oct 11

Explore the garden at harvest time. Help to pick different flowers, veggies and fruits that we will share together in a harvest hoopla celebration!
